Tom Cruise Movies

Top Gun (PG) 

First of all, there was way too much sweating in this movie. It was ridiculous. Everyone was shiny with sweat/dripping sweat off their face the entire movie. Digusting. Second of all, Tom Cruise looked like a 17 year-old boy in this movie and it was just too weird for me. He looked pervy. And his teeth were also gross. Third of all, the music in this movie was AWFUL. And they played the same song like 15 times throughout the movie. Like they couldn't find another song to use. So as you can tell, I wasn't all too fond of this movie. Plus it was made in the 80's, which is a major red flag anyways when it comes to me enjoying a movie. OH! and the "sex scene" was so disgustingly gross.. so much tongue! Ew. Especially after seeing him sweaty the entire movie...
The plot wasn't all that bad though. I liked the action in it while they were flying around in those jets, and I liked the competitiveness because it made me want Tom Cruise to win. I also liked his flying partner and how honest he was with Cruise whenever he would eff stuff up. It wasn't all that bad of a movie, but I wouldn't watch it again. He really creeped me out.

Jack Reacher (PG-13)

Now this Tom Cruise is so much better. I don't like him all that much either way, but the older one is more bearable. I don't find him to be so creepy and pervy when he's older, and his teeth look much better now. I would say this movie is pretty good; I enjoyed it. Basically, this guy is suspected for being a sniper and killing random people on the street, and he asks for Jack Reacher. No one knows why this guy wants Jack Reacher, and no one even knows who Jack is. Anyways, Jack goes and investigates and figures out all this crazy stuff, which I like because it all fits into place. He gets set-up and all this drama and fighting happens. And then he meets this old man who helps him out in the end. I thought it was a fun movie to watch.

Taken 2 and Everything Must Go

Taken 2 (PG-13) - Liam Neeson

 

Surprisingly we did not watch this movie when it came out in theaters even though we were really interested in watching it. We even waited a couple months after it came out in Redbox for some reason. I was kind of excited to watch it because I liked the first one, and also because my husband thinks Liam Neeson is so funny. And he is. The way he talks just makes me laugh. So dramatic. Anyways, the movie was pretty expected. I knew someone was going to get kidnapped again and that he would have to go after the bad guys to get them back. His ex-wife was actually the one that got taken, because they took a vacation in Istanbul, Turkey.. who the eff goes on a vacation over there?! I did like that his daughter helped him find her mom, going on the roof tops and finding the hole to drop his phone into. That was pretty fun to watch. Crazy how he could remember and describe that to her. My husband loved the part where he is in the car with a bag over his head and he's describing everything that he hears. Too funny. Anyways, it was a good movie.


Everything Must Go (R) - Will Ferrell

There are only a few Will Ferrell movies that I don't like, and I thought this was going to be one of them. I knew it wasn't going to be a comedy because I read the description, and I thought that this was going to be one of his more serious kind of movies, and I usually don't like those. It was basically about a guy whose wife left him the same day he lost his job, and she left all of his belongings out on the front yard. And then after a few days, he decided that he was just going to sell everything he had because she wouldn't take him back. That's basically the entire movie. Nothing to crazy or dramatic about it. I did like the little boy who came to talk to and help him sell all of his stuff. Even though it was kind of simple, I liked the movie.

Random Movies

Les Miserables (PG-13) - Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway

I was completely disappointed with this movie. I knew it was a musical so I expected singing, but singing the whole entire frikin movie?! Singing conversations back and forth to each other? I thought that was a little weird. I was expecting more like Moulin Rouge or Hairspray, but whatever. I didn't really remember the story from watching the play when I went to New York in 2007, and I might have read the book for a high school assignment, but I don't remember if I did that either. Anyway, it's a good story. I didn't care too much for this particular version though. I did cry at the end though when he finally goes on after his little girl gets married and is taken care of. I would not care to watch this again though. Too much singing.

Man of Steel (PG-13) - Henry Cavill, Amy Adams

I love Superman. I didn't grow up reading his comics or watching his cartoons or anything, but I did watch Smallville and I absolutely loved that show. I watched every single episode of all ten seasons. That's also how my husband and I met. Well not met, but it's how we started hanging out, we'd watch the episodes together. And Tom Welling is a babe. Anyway, I was totally excited to watch this movie when it came out. We of course watched it opening weekend, like we do all superhero movies. I surprisingly didn't get confused since I usually do when it goes into different worlds with weird names and weird people. I really liked this movie except for one part. There's only so much action scenes I can take. Toward the end of the movie, Superman and the bad guy were fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting. I was tensed up for so long that I snapped back into reality and got bored. That scene felt like it lasted 30 minutes, it was so ridiculous. But other than that, I enjoyed the movie.

Jeff, Who Lives at Home (R) - Jason Segal, Ed Helms

  So my friend let us use her netflix account a couple of months ago, so my husband and I were roaming through the movies one day, and we can never agree on a movie to watch because I think he usually picks weird ones. Well we came across this movie, and there were actors in it that I knew and we both hadn't really heard about this movie, or at least he said he didn't so that I would agree to watch it with him. The movie did turn out to be a little weird, but I liked it. Basically it was about a guy Jeff who felt like he had some purpose in life to fulfill but he just couldn't figure it out, and while he couldn't figure it out he would just smoke weed and live in his mom's basement. Jeff didn't get along with his older brother who was going through something with his wife, but Jeff ends up helping him out. Then their mom is just sad about being alone and starts to like another woman, kind of weird. But it wasn't that bad of a movie, and it was actually kind of funny. I enjoyed it.

Girlish Movies

Identity Thief (R) - Jason Bateman & Melissa McCarthy

The first time I saw Melissa McCarthy was when she was in Bridesmaids. I don't know if that's the first movie she's ever done, but that's the first one I saw her in, and I thought she was just so disgusting. She looked like she was dirty and smelled in that movie, and it really grossed me out, even though her character was pretty funny. My husband was more interested in seeing Identity Thief than I was, but we rarely watch comedies, or I should say, we don't watch comedies as often as we watch dramas or action movies, so I was in the mood for a comedy. As always, I'm hesitant on watching rated R comedies because they are usually more disgusting with nudity and stuff than it is actually funny. But that wasn't the case with this movie, although this was one of those frustrating movies where bad stuff keeps happening one after the other. It was actually a pretty funny movie, and it made me like this girl again, she redeemed herself from Bridesmaids. I'm not sure I would watch this movie again though.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (PG-13) - Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson

I absolutley loved this movie. And that's not a joke. I don't care if I spoil this movie because it's too popular and too old for someone not to have seen this yet. Anyway, I think the movie was made pretty well, and it got me really good. The part where the Volturi come to kill the new baby and then they all start fighting because the Volturi cut off the Cullen dad's head.. I was like, I don't remember this part in the book OMG. And the scene lasted a good 20 minutes until it cut back to Alice thinking all that in her head. It was crazy, and I loved that they did it like that. I think that's the most significant thing I remember from that movie, and I liked it so much, it made me really like the entire thing.

The Guilt Trip (PG-13) - Seth Rogan, Barbara Streisand

So I went to go see this movie with my mother. Let me tell you a little bit about my mother. She's a crybaby, but when it comes to movies she sheds no tears. Hardly ever. Like we watched The Other Sister one time, about the cancer girl, and she didn't even sniffle once. She walked out with dry eyes like the movie bored her. But this movie.. When it comes to anything that reminds her of her sons, she bawls like a baby. 
The story is that her son created a new cleaning product and is traveling the states to try and get his product on stores' shelves. He goes home to visit his mother one day and then something happens to where he feels bad for her and decides to invite her on the trip with him. They go through the whole trip learning new things about each other, like why the mother doesn't date anymore after her husband's gone, or why the son isn't hung up on his ex anymore since she left him. And then she learns that he invited her with an alterior motive instead of just for fun, hence "the guilt trip" and during that moment of the movie, my mom bawled. Ok, not bawled but she cried, and that's saying a lot. And then of course she cried at the end when her son left her again, and she cried at the beginning when the mom wondered why her son likes to live so far away from her. This movie wasn't helping my brother's case at all.
Anyway, I did actually enjoy watching this movie. It was simple and relatable. Good movie.

Perks of Being a Wallflower (PG-13) - Emma Watson

I usually like to watch movies where the actors have been a main character in a series of popular movies, just to see how they can act outside of that role. Like Stewart in Twilight and Snow White and the Huntsman. So I really wanted to watch this movie with Hermoine from Harry Potter. I was excited to see how different she would be in this one. My husband would never let me get this movie from Redbox. Everytime we would go, he would convince me on watching something else, so when he went out of town for a wedding, I rented it without him. I know it's our thing to watch movies together, but that's not usually the case when it comes to movies the other one doesn't want to watch, and he obviously didn't care too much to see this one.
Anyway, as I said, I was excited to see this movie. But the movie itself was unexpected. I was thinking it would be more along the lines of a corny movie or teenager movie, but instead it was a dark kind of movie with drugs and suicide and molestation. I did not really like how it turned out. I was always on edge thinking something sad and dark was going to happen out of nowhere.  However, I did like Emma Watson's part, I think she did really well. And I loved her gay brother in the movie, he was super funny. I don't think I would ever watch this movie again though.

Man Movies

Shawshank Redemption (R)-Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman



What a sad movie. Not that it was actually sad, but that this innocent guy had to go to jail for so many years. I don't think that I would be so calm if I went to jail for my spouse being murdered either, especially if I wasn't the one who did it. I actually liked the movie a lot because it kept me interested the entire time, not knowing if he was really innocent or not, not knowing what was going to happen because Morgan Freeman kept saying that he liked this guy for some reason and I didn't know what to expect. I also think this movie had a good amount of humor in it for it not being a comedy, like when Morgan Freeman recites the same thing every year to see if he can be released. The old man in the movie made me sad though because he couldn't handle being free after being in jail for so long, and the other man who threatened to kill his friend so that he didn't have to leave jail- that's just so sad. It's funny though becuase this movie makes me feel sorry for criminals; it made me feel sad for an old man who murdered someone, or for Morgan Freeman because he couldn't get out of jail everytime they interviewed him to see if he was doing any better to be released. This is one of the few movies I'm glad my husband made me watch.

The Usual Suspects (R) - Too Many People

Bleh. I got confused. I hate when I get confused during movies, it makes me like it less. I got confused because they introduced so many characters at once who look alike without saying their names and then they expect me to remember who they are and what crime they did and who the baddest of them all is?! Yeah, I'm not going to remember that. I also didn't like how bloody and disgusting it was. I can only take so much. And I knew the ending! I knew it. I didn't know it exactly, but I knew something like that was going to happen. I don't think I'd ever watch this movie again though. Maybe one more time so that I could actually watch it and understand it at the same time, but then again, maybe not.

A Good Day to Die Hard (R) - Bruce Willis

O.M.G. Hilarious! I thought this movie was just too ridiculous. I think Bruce Willis' lines just get worse and worse the more movies there are. He is just too corny; every single line he says is like he's a bad comedian. Made me roll my eyes too many times in this movie, I'm surprised they're not stuck like that. (See how not funny that was, but it was supposed to be?) There was one part that I absolutely loved though. It's when they are jumping out of this building while the bad guy is in a helicopter, and Bruce Willis has enough time and energy to turn in mid-air to flick off the bad guy. I died laughing. That's pretty much all I remember to this movie. It was all too funny. I loved it!

Bossypants- Tina Fey

I never really liked SNL, and I still don't. For some reason I just don't find it funny, except for the occasional SNL shorts, and the clips with Justin Timberlake in them. I actually don't really remember when I first saw Tina Fey, maybe it was when she did the Sarah Palin imitation. But anyway, when I first saw her, I loved her immediately. Was I disappointed in Baby Mama? Yeah, I was. I expected it to be a whole lot funnier. I started watching 30 Rock with my husband, and I loved her in that too, but Tracey Morgan was just too annoying for me so I stopped watching. But Date Night with Steve Carrell... That is my favorite movie of all time. I love it. So last Christmas, my brother-in-law got me Bossypants as a gift, and I was totally excited to start reading it. I didn't really know what to expect from the book either. I never really heard about it before and wasn't too sure if it was an autobiography or what. It is.

I enjoyed the book a lot. I will admit that there were a lot of references that I didn't understand, but it was a good read. I like the way she writes, it's like she's just talking to you, explaining how her life was, and she had a lot of funny and embarrassing stories. The one thing I didn't like is that she kind of went out of order of her life, like back and forth, which was a little confusing. But I'd definitely recommend it.

Book Movies

The Lucky One- Nicholas Sparks

I like to read books that are turned into movies. I might have mentioned that before. I never really wanted to read Nicholas Sparks books because I always felt kind of funny like I'm some mushy, lovey girl. But I was fresh out of ideas, so I decided to pick one up. I was greatly surprised. They are mushy, lovey books, but they are a fun and easy read. The Lucky One was really good. It was about a man who finds this girls picture in the war, and his friend believes that this picture is what kept him from dying the whole three years he was in the war, and he decides to travel across the states to find her. There was obviously a lot of other stuff that went on in the book, even a douche bag character that annoyed the crap out of me, and I really enjoyed it. I like how Sparks writes. At some chapters, he leaves you with cliff hangers and I like that because it's not every chapter, but enough to keep you wanting to read more.

Now the movie on the other hand. Of course the books are always better than the movies, but this movie was very disappointing. Like with Harry Potter, the movies are still exciting even though they don't match the books that well, but this one, the story was lacking A LOT of the details in the book. Like the douche bag character in the book was barely even a douche bag in the movie, and that sucked because even though I hated his character, I liked it because I hated him so much. I'd definitely recommend the book though.

Safe Haven- Nicholas Sparks

Now this book was amazing. It's about a girl who ran away from her abusive husband, but was always scared that he was going to find her. What an awful life to live. While I was reading this book, on the chapters that especially made me mad because the husband was an a-hole, I would slam the book closed, give an evil look to my husband and say, "If you EVER hit me, I would cut off your weener and throw it down the garbage disposal!" and then walk out of the room. But the book was just really good. It made me feel a lot of different emotions, and I was so tensed up during the end of the book because I was afraid of what was going to happen. Sparks really made me feel anxious and I loved it.

The movie was quite the opposite. This movie was just so different from the book that it made me angry. The parts that I loved the most in the book, the parts that made me feel  the most emotion weren't even in the movie, and the story was changed too much. The movie also started off super slow and I was getting bored with it. I'm surprised my brother and his friend didn't walk out of the room to watch something else.
